Tomorrow on February 11th Safer Internet Day will be celebrated worldwide. Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness and knowledge how to use the Internet in safe way. One of the initiators of children’s’ protection on the Internet in Montenegro is Telenor.
(Podgorica, 10th February 2014) – This year as well, through numerous activities as part of Initiative “Conquer Internet, Surf Wisely” Telenor contributes to the celebration of Safer Internet Day. By current selection of future Safe Internet ambassadors from nearly 70 Montenegrin elementary schools, Telenor in a best way promotes need and importance of safe surfing on the global network.
“Although Safer Internet day is celebrated once a year, by our regular activities and education of pupils, we undertake measures to make the digital world of children and their parents constantly protected. Our commitment to create better internet environment is best illustrated by the facts – during the course of 215 workshops 5000 pupils in 10 Montenegrin towns have found out useful information about proper Internet usage. Within “Conquer Internet, Surf Wisely” initiative all of them have been learning how to behave on the Internet, how to protect personal data and how to use social networks and peer education has been used throughout this process”, said Adrijana Husic, Telenor PR and coordinator of “Surf Wisely” Initiative.
This year, Telenor is making one step forward in this Initiative. Knowledge about behavior and protection of personal data on the internet, this year will gain pupils of additional 70 elementary schools from all Montenegrin towns. The importance and the need to continue with the activities of this Initiative additionally shows data from the Ministry of Information Society - the highest percentage of students (69.2%) have started to use Internet in age between five and ten, and only 19.7% parents explain to them how to surf the Internet in a safe way.
“By educating Safe Internet ambassadors who share their knowledge with peers in their schools, having the blog on this topic and by launching mobile application, as well as through TV show, among children and youth we are raising awareness about the importance of the safety and protection on the Internet In this way, with additional volunteer work and engagement of Telenor employees, “Conquer Internet, Surf Wisely” initiative will make 2014 the year of safe Internet”, Husic has concluded.
Telenor is realizing this Initiative with support of the Ministry of Information Society and Telecommunications, Ministry of Education, and in cooperation with the Association of Parents, Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro Ombudsman as well as with interactive studio design - fleka.
